Ms. Nancy Winlove-Smith is a Herbal Technician and Contemporary Medical Acupuncturist certified through the Mohawk/McMaster University Health Sciences program and has completed all required courses applicable to the Mohawk/McMaster University Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy) Diploma and professional member of the Ontario Herbalist Association. 

 Ms. Winlove-Smith actively promotes research and consults on the development of effective complementary therapies that may be integrated into personal and clinical use.   

The herbal medicine diploma requires over 2,500 hours of instruction in anatomy, physiology, physical examination, differential diagnosis, microbiology and pharmacology under the supervision of a medical doctor.  The accreditations of practical skills were completed at the McMasterUniversity teaching hospital located in Hamilton Ontario Canada.  Ms. Winlove-Smith has completed over 300 clinical hours in a variety of complementary medical settings including a herbal clinic with dispensary and assisting Dr. Paul Saunders at the Dundas Naturopathic Centre.

Ms. Winlove-Smith was accepted to the McMaster University Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program offered through the department of anesthesia in September 2004; a 300-hour intensive program recognized by the American Medical Association and the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is the neuro-anatomy approach to acupuncture treatment developed by Dr. Alejandro Elorriaga Claraco MD.  Dr. Angelica Fargas-Babjak chairs this program which emphasizes and promotes holistic treatment plans for optimum patient recovery.  Ms. Winlove-Smith expanded her integrative approach to complementary care through this program and received certification in December 2004.

 An advocate for choices in health care, Ms. Winlove-Smith submitted a proposal to the Romanow Commission in October 2002 suggesting the integration of herbal medicine within our current health care plan.  MPP Stan Keyes supported the concept of a national program that would encourage preventative health education through research and development of domestic botanical products and personally endorsed the submission.

The Natural Healer published Ms. Winlove-Smiths article "Using Herbs Responsibly" in the spring 2005 edition.  The article was researched and written to educate consumers about the potential effects of common herbal products.

 October 2005 Ms. Winlove-Smith was invited by McMaster Health Sciences Corporate Pain Committee to educate health care professionals on herbal alternatives to pain management. 

January 2006 Nancy was approved by Wellwood Center (Henderson Hospital) as resource for cancer patients seeking information on alternative therapies and January 2007 was their educational series key note speaker at the Hamilton Spectator auditorium.   

January 2008 Nancy was invited to present at the Healthy Lifestyles and Green Lifestyles Show at the Royal Botanical Gardens where she educated those interested in herbal products.


A passionate advocate of the human spirit Ms. Winlove-Smith has actively volunteered in the community, assisting children with learning difficulties within the primary school setting and provided nutritional foods for approximately 300 children at Hamilton's Queen Mary public school during 2000 and 2001.   She has hosted Nana Mouskouri in support of raising funds for UNICEF and recently was involved in raising funds for the McMaster University Spinal Cord Research Department. 

December 2007 Nancy donated a percentage of her art sales to purchase organic produce from Simpler Thyme Farm which was delivered to the Living Rock Center to provide meals to disadvantaged youths.

Ms. Winlove-Smith believes art and music can be integrated into the healing process.   She integrates therapeutic music into her treatment plans and promotes education for the use in both clinical and personal settings.  Personal interests include writing, drawing and painting.
